My Father Flor de las Antillas Robusto | The Cigar Room Hove
- Description
In 2012, Cigar Aficionado named the My Father Flor de las Antillas the number one cigar in the world. Over a decade later, it still earns that respect every time it's lit.
Created by Don "Pepin" Garcia and his son Jaime at their Nicaraguan factory, the Flor de las Antillas is a true puro: wrapper, double binder and filler all sourced entirely from Nicaragua. The blend has never been officially disclosed, but what is known is that the wrapper is a sun-grown Nicaraguan leaf, and the double binder construction is a technique closely associated with the Garcia family's most serious work.
The Robusto at 5" x 50 is the most classic expression of the line. From the first draw it opens with a creamy, full texture that signals Cuban-seed tobacco at play. Roasted pecans and almonds lead the first third, clean and milky, with an unsweetened nougat note sitting just underneath. Through the middle the profile shifts: almond milk gives way to iced coffee, baking spices lift the sweetness, and milk chocolate begins to deepen. In the final third, bittersweet cocoa and bold coffee take over completely, with occasional hints of dried berry and cedar emerging for those paying close attention. The retrohale carries floral notes throughout that add a dimension most medium-full cigars simply don't have.
Construction is superb. The draw is ideal for a punch cut, the ash is firm and the burn is even. A cortado or a quality rum alongside and you won't want it to end.
Rated 4.5/5 by Klaro Cigars.
