JFR Lunatic Habano El Chiquito

Wrapped in gold foil with a pigtail cap, the JFR Lunatic Habano El Chiquito looks like something you'd find in a prop department. It smokes nothing like that.

Launched in 2014, this stocky 4¾" x 70 gordo from Aganorsa Leaf has built a quiet cult following and the wrapper is a big reason why. The Ecuadorian habano leaf is flawless to the touch, bright and oily, with a clean pre-light aroma of sweetened black tea, lemon and balsa wood. It already tells you this is going to be something different to the Maduro.

Once lit, the first two-thirds deliver exactly that. Graham cracker sweetness, toasted oak, roasted walnut and a creamy nuttiness that rolls through the palate with zero aggression. No early pepper spike, no harshness just a well-structured habano profile that builds gradually, picking up herbal bitterness and a subtle citrus edge as you move through the smoke. Retrohales are particularly good: silky, spiced and layered with sun-grown tobacco character.

Smoke it at an easy pace, don't rush it, and you'll get around four hours from this little beast.
