Casa Turrent 1880 Rosado Gordito 460 | The Cigar Room Hove
- Description
The Turrent family have been growing tobacco in Mexico's San Andrés Valley since 1880. The 1880 series is their pinnacle: a single harvest of their finest leaves, aged for over a decade, rolled into a handful of carefully chosen vitolas.
The Gordito 460 is exactly what it sounds like: 4 inches of fat, serious Mexican cigar. Short enough for an hour's smoke, wide enough at a 60 ring gauge to carry a full, complex profile from first draw to final puff.
The Rosado is the fifth variant in the 1880 range. Three Cuban-seed tobaccos, Habano Mexico, Habano Criollo and Habano 2000, all grown by the Turrent family in San Andrés, are layered together and wrapped in the valley's distinctive Rosado leaf. Pre-light, it smells of hay, vanilla and citrus. The cold draw delivers something close to sweet-sour citrus candy, vivid and immediately memorable.
Lit, the Gordito opens with a creamy, airy draw that stays true throughout. Citrus is the defining note, bright and unusual for a premium cigar, running alongside espresso, toasted sourdough, roasted nuts, cinnamon and a quiet background fruitiness reminiscent of green grapes. The retrohale brings clean white pepper. Aftertaste is walnuts and espresso.
Medium in strength, rich in character, and priced well below what it delivers.
