Bolivar Regentes Edición Limitada 2021 single cigar

Every year, Habanos S.A. releases a handful of Edición Limitada cigars. One per brand, made once, never repeated. The Bolivar Regentes was the 2021 release for one of Cuba's most storied names, and it is exactly what you'd expect from a brand that has always prioritised power over subtlety. This is full-bodied Bolivar at its most considered: same bold character, but softened and deepened by two years of extra ageing. It doesn't shout. It commands.

The Regentes vitola, known as Discretos on the factory floor in Havana, measures 130mm with a generous 52 ring gauge. That format gives you something between a robusto and a toro: a dense, slow-burning smoke that settles into its rhythm early and stays there. Construction is tripa larga, totalmente a mano  long filler, entirely handmade. The draw is even and open, the burn line straight. The Colorado wrapper from Vuelta Abajo is tight and smooth, slightly toothy to the touch, and oily enough to signal the quality inside.

On the palate, the first third is all musty cedar and hickory wood, with a layer of instant coffee and dry cereal underneath. It's complex from the outset: not aggressive, but serious. Through the body, clove and baker's chocolate begin to emerge, with a touch of vanilla on the retrohale and a background sweetness that stops just short of honey. The finish is long and dry, with lingering wood and spice. Forty-five minutes to an hour of genuinely absorbing smoke.

These were presented in special production SLB boxes of 25, and availability is strictly limited. Once they're gone, they're gone. The Bolivar Regentes 2021 is for the smoker who knows what a limited edition Cuban cigar actually means: not a marketing exercise, but a deliberate, once-in-a-vintage expression of a great brand.
